In-home care in Newark, Delaware
Home care in Newark, Delaware, including support after a hospital stay. Personal care,
companionship, medication reminders and respite
The first fortnight after a hospital stay
A lot of the calls we take from Newark come within a day or two of somebody being discharged from Christiana
Hospital on Ogletown-Stanton Road. The family has been told their mother is well enough to go home, which is true,
and they have been given a folder of instructions, which is also true, and nobody has explained who is going to cook
on Thursday.
That first fortnight is where most readmissions come from. Someone needs to be in the house, making sure the
medication is being taken correctly, that they are eating, and that they are not trying the stairs on their own the first
time.
When the family is not in Delaware
Newark is a town people move to and move away from. We work with a lot of families where the parent stayed and the
children are in another state, managing from a distance by phone.
For those families we do the ordinary things that cannot be done over a phone. We are in the house. We see whether
the fridge has been used. We tell you what we saw, plainly, rather than telling you what you would like to hear.
What we provide
Personal care, including washing, dressing and help getting around the house safely. Companionship. Meal
preparation and light housekeeping. Medication reminders. Transport to follow-up appointments and to the
pharmacy. Respite care for a family member who has taken time off work to cover and cannot keep doing it.
Hours can be arranged quickly when a discharge date comes through at short notice, which it usually does.
